The
History of Mission San Jose
Mission San Jose was founded by the
Franciscan Fathers in 1797, and became home to herds of cattle, horses
and sheep, fields of corn and wheat, and many olive trees. During the
California Gold Rush, Mission San Jose was an agricultural center and
the Mission buildings became the hotel, general store and Post Office.
The Mission area is
home to several historically significant attractions, including the
Mission, the authentically reconstructed adobe church, and the Old
School.

The 4th Grade "Mission
Project"
Every year, 4th grade students in
California study the California Missions, and write a report on one of
the missions. We receive many requests for information to help these
students. Please note that the Mission San Jose Chamber of Commerce is a
business organization for the local town of Mission San Jose, and we are
not officially part of the Mission itself.
Visit the
Mission's website for more information. |
